Everything Must Change

It’s about time for me to blog on the Emergent experience once again. I am writing from the “Everything Must Change” Tour with Brian McLaren.  This  conference has been really interesting thus far and Brian seems to be very sincere and heartfelt- not only in his message, but also in the way he relates with people he barely knows. Had I known nothing of this man before we met the other night, I would have thought him to be a true representative of kindness. Thanks Brian for all you do! Sojourners is here. The Sierra Club is here. The One Campaign…Wake Forrest Div….Mars Hill Grad…and so on and so forth…I bought a copy of “A Community Called Atonement” and got a free copy of “Everything Must Change”…. sweet.
On a slightly more depressing note, I have not slept well all week and had to wake up at 4am this morning to drive to NoDa in Charlotte to set up tarps over the windows of the church so that the power point presentation could be more easily read. I don’t mind though. Beside the church is a place called Area 15 which is a place where artists create beautiful works. Located within the same building is the 24/7 Prayer Room which is equally neat-o. Check out the sites. Seriously. Do It. It’s a Goodness Revolution.

Charlotte Theology Pub - 9/12/07 (Wednesday)

That’s right… we  had a great discussion last time. Even if there were only three of us. Tyler Ashworth made his debut appearance and we talked about why we think theologically and why we do theology. It was great. If you’re reading this post, try coming out this week to the Flying Saucer in Charlotte. We’d love to have you!

Friday @  7:30

Charlotte Theology Pub… Perhaps you’ve heard of it?…. On Facebook No Doubt?

This Wednesday will be the first- ever “Charlotte Theology Pub” Meeting. I’m hoping for this to be an exciting time to discuss theology and philosophy and whatever else happens to come out of it. I think it will be a good chance to interact with others and build a community of those within faith, those outside it, and those who don’t quite no where they fall in the mix. I hope to open up with introductions about one another and build from there on different topics everyone might want to discuss. Anyone is free to come out and join in the discussion and this is the perfect time to do it. After all, it is the first night. Better to come when no one knows anyone than when you don’t know anyone and everyone else does, right? Haha. Anyway, we’d love to see you out there.

Remember, sometimes the questions are more important than the answers.

Place: Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (Charlotte, NC)

Time: Wed. @ 7:30- until?

What to bring?: Nothing. Just yourself. Maybe some money for beer and food if you want. Perhaps, a book you would like for the group to read and discuss.

To ordain or not to ordain? - That might be the question.

I have just requested papers for the ordination process through the Advent Christian General Conference.

I’m not quite sure what all is entailed in this process, but I’m pretty sure that I have to write a long paper and then go before a committee that will decide if God has called me into ministry. I’ve been thinking a lot about the ordination service and how if focuses on one man’s life. I thought to myself that this is not the way to do it. I think when the ordination service comes around, I would like to have everyone involved in some way. The focus should never be on me alone, because that’s not how we should live -cut off from everyone. We live life with other people and with God and sometimes alone, but Community takes the focus off Self-interest and places emphasis on others. So, I’m thinking up some cool, creative, artsy, serving, loving, and original stuff for this ceremony. Hopefully, sometime this winter everyone can come out for a community meeting of fun, food, and celebrating the way in which God uses the broken pieces of fragmented humanity to create a beautiful mosaic of love.

An interesting article on Bar vs. Church

Check it out!
